Chicago Sunday, May 18,2014
Vijay's name was called at the special ceremony on the concluding day of his Soccer match.
Special Olympics Medal Was adorning his neck and dangling on his chest. He was cheered by his Coach, who trained him relentlessly, encouraging him, and his team,. the visitors, which included the parents, siblings, and Grandparents of the players. We were happy we could be present to watch Vijay's game.
A special moment of happiness and sparkle in his eyes. Made us proud as he showed it to us.
Watching Little Vijay getting ready for his soccer practice session on Wednesday was great fun. Accompanying him,, driving for almost 45 minutes to an hr, we reached the fields. We walked around the field, waiting for the other team to arrive.
The sun was still bright, and glowing, but couldn't feel the warmth.
It was a suburb park, that hosted the practice session. The weather was cold, chilly winds blowing steadily, but the green grass, freshly cut spread across several acres was a treat to the eye.
we watched him getting ready in the van with his outfit and bubbling with joy to meet his colleagues.
Vijay is the youngest of his team, which comprises of boys and girls trained for soccer. After waiting for almost an hour, Vijay's team got a walkover and moved to the semifinal place.
Sunday was a special day for all of us. This time the venue was in another park, closer than before, and the game to begin by 12.00
The warming exercises were good to watch, and we took a long walk around the walking track.
By 1.30 the two teams tossed the coin to begin the game regular soccer game, these people had few rules modified as per their requirement,
Some of them could kick the ball so fast and right across the other side, Vijay ducked his head to save being hurt, and the entire crowd cheered him for his presence of mind. He was bold and ran back forth trying to be closer to the ball.
"Keep your eyes on the ball, Vijay kick ", were repeated from the baseline.
When the ball was with him,, he started dabbling it so slowly, and the spectators cheered once again"come on Vijay, push it and run after. His team members helped him to move it further. It was interesting the way the ball is passed and they scored two goals in the first half of the game.
He was happy to hear the cheering and made efforts to push it.
He enjoyed his time on the field, as well as off the field.
After the Award ceremony, he held his Medal aloft and admired it closely, with a sparkle in his eyes. We had our cameras ready to take a few snaps, to share it with all. we traced back our steps to the van, parked far away from the field. Vijay was now very tired, that he had a cup of chocolate milk and started narrating his actions while coming back home.
